Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ – Children of God – Friends,

Week 28… This is my last Weekly Words offering to you; my last message before Rev Allison Playfair begins her ministry with you! It is a time of endings and beginnings… sadness and joy intermingled! It is also a time to reflect on our journey over the past year; to celebrate all we have been together, honour the losses and sorrow we have shared, give thanks to God for each moment, each memory, each blessing along the way!

THANK YOU seems too small, to adequately acknowledge the welcome I have received, the grace, support and care of many!

THANK YOU, for offering me this opportunity to serve, try some new things with you… and to challenge you to deepen your relationship with the Holy through your faithful actions; serving and sewing, praying and practicing hospitality, worshiping and wondering, listening and learning, advocating and acting, blessing and being…

THANK YOU for being you; with your diverse experiences, your passion for your communities, your traditions and your steadfast commitment to keep your faith communities vibrant!

THANK YOU one and all!

On Sunday, we will share in one last worship service together! You are invited to come to the Carlisle parking lot at NOON, so we can praise God for the blessings of the past year; the healing that has happened… the ministry we have shared …the community that remains intact in spite of COVID… the care shown to one another… the leaders who have worked tirelessly and faithfully on your behalf! We will celebrate God’s faithfulness; in times of grief and loss. We will worship through song and word; to honour and give thanks for our journey… and then we will wish each other well, pray for the new thing God is doing, and go forth to serve in Love’s Name & Way; with joyful hearts, overflowing with gratitude for what has been and what will be!

With heartfelt gratitude, love and best wishes,

NEW! Responding to Mental Health: Living in a pandemic has taken a toll on people’s mental health. The reality of COVID-19 has made many people feel anxious and afraid, and some find it difficult to cope. Even before the pandemic struck, people within the United Church had been working on resources and offering responses to mental health.

The United Church of Canada has a Mental Health Working Group. This group met most recently this week, and will bring a series of recommendations and resources to the upcoming General Council.

Full communion partner the United Church of Christ USA (UCC-USA) has a Mental Health Network of congregations who are W.I.S.E. — Welcoming, Inclusive, Supportive, and Engaged. On November 13 and 14, the UCC-USA is holding its first online W.I.S.E. Conference! The gathering will include a panel discussion during Saturday’s lunch hour that will address intersectionality – mental health with the queer community, mental health with disabilities, and mental health with people of colour. A registration link and more details will be available in the coming weeks. STAY TUNED!

This week’s prayer for the journey –

O God,
We thank you for the past year;
your outpouring of grace;
your abiding presence in our worship and learning,
in our service, our outreach and in our living as Christian community.

Holy One, whose everlasting love for all is trustworthy,
help each of us to trust the future which rests in your care.
The time we were together in your name saw our laughter and tears,
our hopes and disappointments.

We pray for your Spirit’s guidance as we move into the new life
you are calling us to
in the name of Jesus!

Guide us as we hold our cherished memories,
celebrate your goodness,
continue to serve in Love’s Name & way,
and with courage and joy embody and embrace
the new ministry you have set before us.

Hold us in your Love,
bless us with your abundance,
and draw us ever closer to You and the other,
until that time comes
when we are completely one with you and with all your creation,
in the name of Jesus, the Christ we pray.

One final piece of music; as I leave you with a song, a smile, and a message of hope!

Be well!
You’ve got this!
We are NOT alone!
Thanks be to God!!!
